The Evangelical Congregation A.B. Merano (ECM) established in the eighteen-fifties as a result of blossoming cooperation with the city of Merano. In 1861 a church and parsonage were donated and an Evangelical cemetery were created. In 1870, the first pastor was appointed, and from 1876, the Community has been a legal constitution. Preaching locations in Bolzano (from 1898 with its own pastor on the way to be an independent municipality) and in Arco were added.
The territory of the Evangelical-Lutherans is from the Reschenpass to the northern shores of Lake Garda and is bordered to the east of a line from Jaufenpass till Nals to Sarca estuary into Lake Garda and the Community of Bozen.
Currently we have approximately 320 registered members.
In addition to the Christ Church in Meran (built between1883-1885), ECM includes the Ev. Trinity Church in Arco and the Ev. Chapel in Solda. In the main tourist season, many visitors participate in our chuch services (in Merano every Sunday usually at 10.00 a.m., in Arco from April to October at 10.45 a.m.). In winter months the community life has a greater emphasis with children’s services, women’s meeting, talking about the Bible and the church choir, among other things. Special highlights are the annual summer festival (usually on the 1st Sunday in September), the Organ-spring (concert on Easter Sunday) and the Organ-May (five Sundays from May to early June).
The Evangelical Community Meran was an independent Lutheran Congregation in between WW I. and 2008. Since 1/05/2008 it has been part of the ELCI. All the events are in German.
