The Melanchton Centre is a Protestant Centre for Ecumenical studies, established by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Italy (ELCI) and the Waldensian Faculty of Theology in 2002. The Centre is a platform for protestant theologians from all over Europe who want to study in the Christian metropolis of Rome in any faculties. The main activities of the Melanchthon Centre are the academic year and the summer course in Rome for students in theology from other countries. There are also meetings and training for theologians in science, teaching and pastorate.
The Melanchton Centre is guided by a Council of Leaders. This consists of two persons, chosen by the consistory of ELCI, and another two persons appointed by the Council of the Waldensian Faculty. Accompany the work of the Centre by an international scientific advisory board. The current operations are performed by the study director and the Secretariat.
In addition to the founding institutions, the Centre gets support from EKD, from the Evangelical Lutheran Community of Rome and from the Evangelical-Lutheran Church in Württemberg. There is also the possibility of project funding that has involved over the past few years, many other partners in the work of the center.
Futhermore, the association “Friends of Melanchthon Centrum e.V.” is assisting the study centre.
